Introduction :
Varada Ganapati is the eighteenth form among the 32 divine manifestations of Lord Ganesha. He is renowned as the “Boon-giver” Ganapati, bestowing blessings and fulfilling the wishes of his devoted worshipers. This form of Lord Ganesha is characterized by several significant attributes and iconography.
Iconography and Attributes :
Varada Ganapati is distinguished by the following symbolic features:
Color: He is radiant and red in color, signifying his divine energy and benevolence.
Crescent Moon: Similar to his father, Lord Shiva, Varada Ganapati wears a crescent moon on his crown, signifying his connection to the lunar energy.
Three Eyes: The Lord is depicted with three eyes, symbolizing his cosmic vision and divine wisdom.
Shakti (Consort): Seated on his left thigh is his divine consort, Shakti, known as Pushti Devi. Shakti holds a lotus and a banner, symbolizing her association with fertility and abundance.
Four Arms and Hands :
Varada Ganapati has four arms, each holding specific attributes:
Elephant Goad (Ankusa): He holds an elephant goad, signifying his control over the mind and his ability to guide his devotees on the right path.
Skull with Liquor (Madhumatkapâla): The Lord carries a skull filled with liquor, representing his role as the one who overcomes obstacles and challenges in the material world.
Noose (Pasha): He wields a noose as a symbol of his power to bind and remove obstacles from the lives of his devotees.
Honey Dish: One of his hands holds a dish filled with honey, representing the sweetness of life and the rewards of devotion.
Worship and Significance :
Varada Ganapati is highly regarded as a bestower of blessings and boons. Devotees seek his divine intervention to fulfill their wishes, overcome challenges, and attain success in their endeavors. Dhyana Mantra :
The Dhyana Mantra for Varada Ganapati invokes his divine presence:
“Sindhoorabhimabhananam Trinayam Haste Cha Pashankushou
Bibhranam Madhumat Kapalamanisham Sadhivindumouli Bhaje
Pushtyashilshyathatanum Dhvajagrakarayaa Padyollasadhastyaa
Tadhyonyahita Panimattamasumata Patrollasat Pushkaram.”
This mantra reflects the essence of Varada Ganapati and his role as the benevolent bestower of boons and blessings.

While there are no specific temples dedicated exclusively to Varada Ganapati, the paintings of all 32 forms of Lord Ganesha can be found in Thiruvananthapuram. Additionally, the temples in Chamarajanagar and Nanjangud in Mysore feature sculptures representing all 32 forms of Ganesha. Worshiping Varada Ganapati is believed to bring fulfillment, abundance, and sweetness to the lives of devotees.
