The Ramayana and the Mahabharata are two of India’s greatest epics that have influenced the Hindu way of thinking and belief system. The two epics are believed to be partially based on historical events and are considered to be “Itihasa” in Sanskrit, which means historical texts.

There are eighteen main Smritis or Dharma Sastras. The most important are those of Manu, Yajnavalkya and Parasara. The other fifteen are those of Vishnu, Daksha, Samvarta, Vyasa, Harita, Satatapa, Vasishtha, Yama, Apastamba, Gautama, Devala, Sankha-Likhita, Usana, Atri and Saunaka.

In Hinduism, the term “Tantra” refers to a diverse body of esoteric and mystical texts, practices, and rituals. Tantra is a significant aspect of certain Hindu traditions and is known for its emphasis on spiritual transformation, worship of divine energies (Shakti), and the union of opposites.
